SHILPA BHARATI’S FIBER GLASS DURGA PRATIMA ON ITS VOYAGE ABROAD
For the first time from India, a big size fiber glass Durga idol flanked by Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartick and Ganesh is on its voyage to Dallas, USA, packed in different containers, to adorn the puja mandap of “Antorik”, a Bengali Association there. The credit goes to M/ S Shilpa Bharati’s GORA CHAND PAUL & SON , 1/ 1 Banamali Sarkar Street (Kumartuli) Kolkata-700005, who have spent two and a half months patient labour to give a final shape of fiberglass Durga idol. Different from the conventional touch and decoration, the idol has been framed 12 feet long and 8 feet high with 100 kg weight. Material for the idol has been chosen as fiberglass to facilitate it’s handling during transportation and its longevity, particularly when the Association abroad, as a rule, does not solemnize its immersion every year. The image is priced about Rs. 2 Lakh, being the highest ever since for a Durga image going abroad. To display the professional skills of handicraft of M/ S Shilpa Bharati, which is in great demand, abroad it has been built on a lowest profit margin.
