Steel was called Damascus Steel by crusaders in ancient times to describe the metal used by the artisans and sword smiths of Damascus, Syria. Weapons made of Steel were so well-forged that it bent under pressure without breaking. It held an edge so sharp it could cleave a man in half with only the force of one arm behind it. Damascening is the traditional method for making decorative patterns on forged products. Two types of Steel, 1095 and 15 N20 are used for this process. The 1095 is a simple steel used to make a superior blade with the addition of manganese used to make the blade etch quite dark. On the other hands 15N20 makes the blade very tough and it provides a good contrast with its darker counterpart. | ||
